Adding Course Reserves to Millennium
Creating a Course Record
1. Click on “Course Reserves” mode.
2. Search “Prof/TA”
3. If the professor has never had a course reserve record, click on the “New” button to add the professor.
4. Enter a beginning date
T= today
C= calendar
5. Enter an ending date (end of the semester)
C= calendar
6. Enter location
B = Buffalo Library
7. Enter the professor’s name (Last name, first name)
8. Enter course name/number (All in CAPS) Examples: VET 206, GEN 200
9. Enter course note if needed.
10. Click “Save”
Now that a course reserve record has been established, items should be added to the course record.
1. Once in the course record click on “Add items or bib”
2. Search for a title. Then follow the steps below:
There are 3 possible scenarios:
a. If the Library owns a copy of the item…
· Find the appropriate bib record. Click “Select”
· Click “Add selected item(s)”
· The course reserve setting window will open.
· Select the appropriate location
bres= Buffalo Reserves: Use in Library
bres2= Buffalo Reserves: 2 day loan
breso= Buffalo Reserves: Overnight loan
· Leave the item type that is selected.
· Click checkbox “Display course name as call number”
· Set item status to “Active” and select an end date (end of the semester).
b. If the Library owns a copy of the item, but the professor is providing a personal copy…
· Find the appropriate bib record. Click “Select”
· Click “Attach new item”
· Set item type = to appropriate reserve type
bres= Buffalo Reserves: Use in Library
bres2= Buffalo Reserves: 2 day loan
breso= Buffalo Reserves: Overnight loan
· Key in barcode that is being attached to the item
· Add professor’s name to the “Personal Copy of” field.
· Click “Save”
· Click “Add item”
· The course reserve setting window will open.
· Select the appropriate location
bres= Buffalo Reserves: Use in Library
bres2= Buffalo Reserves: 2 day loan
breso= Buffalo Reserves: Overnight loan
· Leave the item type that is selected.
· Click checkbox “Display course name as call number”
· Set item status to “Active” and select an end date (end of the semester).
c. If the Library does not own the item, and the professor wants to add a personal copy to reserve, a new bibliographic record and item record will need to be created by following these steps:
1. Creating a new bibliographic record
· Click “New”
· Enter Cat. Date (t=today)
· Enter author’s name (last name, first name)
· Enter title
· Add professor’s name to the “Personal Copy of” field.
· Set item type = to appropriate reserve type

breso= Buffalo Reserves: Overnight loan· Enter Barcode number
2. Attaching an item to the new bibliographic record
· The “New Item” tab will automatically open after a new bib record has been created.
· Add “Personal Copy of” note to the item record
· Click save
· Click “Add Item”
· The course reserve setting window will open.
· Select the appropriate location

bres2= Buffalo Reserves: 2 day loan
breso= Buffalo Reserves: Overnight loan
· Leave the item type that is selected.
· Click checkbox “Display course name as call number”
· Set item status to “Active” and select an end date (end of the semester).
