Global Updates
Global updates are the most flexible method for updating records in Millenium.
There is a limit of 5000 records that can be updated at once using global updates, so you may need to run the update multiple times to change all the records.
Example of how to use Global updates
I wanted to change the some of the text in a Misc field from |3 to |z and this is the process I went through to accomplish this.
- Go to the module that handles the records you want to update. I used Cataloging as the records I was updating were item/bibliographic records
- Click on the Global Update button
- Select Review from teh Review-Index-Advanced menu drop down box
- Select the review file that holds the records that you want to update
- Click on the Search button, this will retrieve the records in your review file.
- Click on the 2. Command Input tab, select the appropriate Command choice (click Add if if the Command choice box doesn't come up right away)
- Click Ok
- Fill out the info in the dialog box to fit your find and replace criteria, make sure that the "Use displayed field" box is unchecked
- Click Ok
- Click on 3. Preview tab, if the results looks good, click on the Process button, this will process your request.
- Look at the Stats results. If it looks like all your records were not updated, check to see if you are trying to update more that 5000 records. If so, then run the process again to update the rest of the records.
