Baker & Taylor
Baker & Taylor is the first choice for materials ordering
Creating new carts
If you need to create a new cart, go to the "carts" tab. In the left-hand column there is a "create new cart -- quick setup" section.
Name the cart using the following convention "Lastname MM-DD-YYYY" and be sure that the correct account is selected (A/V items must be ordered from the AV account).
Finding and adding titles to carts
Search for materials under the "search" tab. You can filter by stock status (especially important if the item is a rush or request for a faculty member). The service center that we are affiliated with is "Midwest."
You can also exclude titles with a Publication status of "not yet published" or "permanently out of stock." If you are using search filters, you must hit the button "search with filters" for them to be applied.
When you want to add a title, you must add a note in the note field with the fund from which the title is to be purchased. If the item is for a specific campus, or was requested by a faculty member, or is a rush, please put that in the note box as well. Put the quantity wanted in the quantity box.
Example note: "1 copy Buffalo, 1 copy Amherst ; fund-socsc ; requestor-Pelton" and in the quantity box you would type a "2"
List of funds:
bus - business & ALP
com - communication
edu - education
hum - humanities
lmis - library, misc.
masci - mathematics & sciences
pop - popular reading
socsc - social sciences (psychology, mental health counseling, criminal justice)
Please check that we do not already own the item by clicking on "ISBN check" on the right hand side of the item record.
No more than 20 titles should be in a cart.
E-mailing cart for approval and purchase
When your cart is ready to order, click on the top tab marked "carts." There is a drop down menu to the left of the cart names marked "select function." Select "email cart" and hit "go." You should enter Pam Jones' e-mail address, along with any notes or special instructions regarding the cart (especially if the item is a RUSH).
If materials are not available through Baker & Taylor, or if the item is a rush and it's status is "available to backorder" on the B & T site, follow the steps below.
Library Selectors may place orders by submiting information online at:
Order Form
When you click the “submit form” button, you will receive an email with a copy of your form for your records—no need to print it if you don’t want to. Each request will go to Pam's email to start the order process, so you won’t have to do anything more than submit your request from the web. Our very capable Acquisitions staff will then process your order.
Once an order is placed, you can search for the title in the catalog to track it’s progress. You will see a status of "On Order" for any items that have been ordered. Once an item is received, the status will change to "In Process". After it is cataloged, the status becomes "Available".
If you are ordering an item at the request of a faculty member, please indicate if the faculty member would like to be notified when the item is ready for circulation.
RUSH ITEM: Use this for items that are needed ASAP. A RUSH item will be cataloged quickly after it is received.
